Portuguese Folk Art Lecture with Maria Restivo

March 24th

In this session, Maria Manuela Restivo will present the editorial series created in 2022, entitled Books from Elsewhere. This project develops a set of publications that intersect the fields of ethnography, art, and vernacular heritage. The books seek to inhabit a space of intersection between academic research and cultural production, combining knwoledge-building with experimentation of genres, languages, and formats.

Maria Manuela Restivo is an anthropologist and researcher. She holds a degree in Anthropology from the University of Coimbra, a Master's in Museology from the University of Porto, and a PhD in Heritage Studies - Art History from the same university, funded by an FCT scholarship (2017-2022). She has worked in several public and private institutions, such as Palácio da Pena and the Cruzes Canhoto gallery. Her research, exhibitions, and publications focus on popular and vernacular artistic practices, often through collaborations with artists and designers. She is currently an integrated researcher at CRIA - UMinho under the CEEC programme (2024-2030).
